The latest in Maxxis' long line of World Cup-winning XC tyres is the new Rekon Race! This semi-slick tyre borrows its tread design from the trail version of the Rekon, but with smaller and shorter knobs. Use it as a rear tyre paired with a more aggressive front tread, or front and read for short track racing.

The standard body of a Tacx direct drive trainer is not compatible with all cassettes. Use this body to suit your SRAM XD-R cassette. It’s easy to place, and all you’ll need is a 5 mm hex key.

The SRAM XD-R body is suitable for 11- and 12-speed SRAM XD-R cassettes. This version is used for trainers with Type 2 axles.

Which Type of Axle Do I Have on My Tacx Trainer?

Tacx direct-drive trainers will come in two different axle types described below.

Type 1 Axle

6 mm or 9 mm internal diameter axle hole suitable for a quick-release skewer.  Adapters allow for a thru-axle bike to be installed onto the trainer using a quick-release skewer.

Type 2 Axle

 12 mm internal diameter axle hole suitable for using a bike's thru-axle. Adapters allow the use of a quick-release skewer as well.

How Do I Determine Which Type of Axle My Trainer Has?

Type 1 trainers:

• NEO Smart
• NEO 2 Smart
• FLUX Smart
• FLUX S Smart*
• FLUX 2 Smart*

Type 2 trainers:

• NEO 2T
• NEO 2, Type 2
• FLUX S Smart*
• FLUX 2 Smart*

*NEO 2, FLUX S and FLUX 2 trainers have been manufactured using both Type 1 and Type 2 axles.  You can choose one of the following identification methods to determine which axle type your trainer has:

Identify the part number on the cassette body installed on the trainer out of the box:

• Shimano Freehub bodies: Type 1, T2805.01 (S) compared to Type 2, T2875-01

• Observe the perimeter surface of the axle endcaps on the trainer, looking for any white letters / numbers identifying the appropriate side for installation and axle diameter x length:
  • Type 1: All black endcap, Quick-release compared to thru-axle: no letters or numbers printed on either cap
  • 
  • Type 2: Quick release caps will be labelled: "QR DS", "QR x 130 NDS" or "QR x 135 NDS". Thru-axle endcaps will be labelled: "12 DS", "12 x 142 NDS" or "12 x 148 NDS".
  • 
• Measure the inside diameter of the trainer axle with the cassette body removed using a caliper tool (pictured below)
  • Type 1: 6mm or 9mm
  • Type 2: 12mm

Which Cassette Body Do I Need for My Trainer?

Direct-drive trainers come with a SHIMANO/SRAM cassette body out of the box.  If you need a replacement or different cassette body, below are part numbers available for purchase:

E-Thru axle skewers allow you to put your mountain bike in the Tacx® trainer. Axles are only compatible with Tacx classic trainers. Separate axles are available for direct drive trainers, and they replace the standard axle skewer.

T1711 E-Thru trainer axle M12x1, with metric fine thread - suitable for hubs with axle skewer attachment 142 ×12 mm: DT Swiss RWS axle skewer (conical and flat), Syntace X-12 system (Specialized) and various Shimano types.

The Maxxis Assegai tyre is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa, thought it was a fitting name for a tyre ready to do battle on the mountain.
